Good morning! So I just completed 14 survey/questionnaires about my Jack russell Terrier Hazel! Will the dna kit be mailed to me automatically or is there anything else I need to do?
Forums > Done with Surveys - now what??
Hi Amanda, I have checked your information and you are all set to receive a DNA kit! It will be sent to you in the mail. All you have to do now is wait for it to arrive! Thank you for your participation and support!
It's been a while since I've done the surveys can you check the list to verify I'll be receiving the kits. I'm not positive my address got validated. It took a couple of times for it to accept. Thanks.
Can you check for me whether my surveys were accepted and when I will receive the kits? Thank you.
How long does it take to get the results once the kit is mailed in? Will I be E-mailed when the results are done?
Linda, you are all set yo receive kits for all of your dogs! Please know that we do like to send out the kits separately when a participant has more than one dog. This is to avoid swapping the kits which are assigned to each individual dog. Thanks!
Ida, I have checked your information and there is no validated address in your profile. Also, I see that you have only completed 3 of the 14 surveys. In order to become eligible to receive a DNA kit, you will need to complete all surveys and have a validated address. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Misty, unfortunately we can not yet provide a time for when the results will be ready. We are still collecting hundreds of samples, and waiting for the genochip to be ready to start processing these samples. Once samples are run on the genochip we will need to do computational work on the raw data to figure out what it all means. This will certainly take time, and when it comes to this kind of science, we just cannot predict a time for when results will be ready for participants. When the results are indeed ready though, we will most likely be posting the results onto participants Darwin's Dogs profiles. Emailing each participant the result would be a bit complicated. In order to stay up to date with this research I would suggest checking this webpage, reading out monthly newsletter or follow us on social media! Thank you!
Hi Brittney, I finished the surveys on Pixie and Baxter months ago. I have not received anything as of yet. Could you let me know what is going on. email address redacted

Hi Patricia, both of your dogs have now been assigned a kit number. They will be mailed out shortly! We do try to stagger kits if participants have more than one dog, so your other kit will probably come a week later from the first. Thanks for your participation!
Patricia, I've edited your post to remove your email address - you probably don't want that posted publicly. We have it on record and can definitely get ahold of you - Brittney will be emailing the above note to you momentarily in case you don't check back here.
Hello I just finished the surveys and validated our address - could you let me know if/when the kit should be expected to be received? Thanks!
Hi Heidi! You are in fact eligible to receive a kit! Thank you for your participation! I would expect for your kit to come in by the end of this week!
I finished the surveys on Wednesday, when should I expect to receive my kit?
Hi Samantha, I checked your information and you are eligible to receive a DNA kit! You have not yet been assigned a DNA kit though, but we will be doing that today and the rest of this week. We did slow down a bit due to the holidays. Once you are assigned a DNA kit bar code (see on your dogs profile under personalized feedback tab) we will be able to send it out in the mail.
I've done all the surveys, but can't validate my mailing address without putting in my phone number. I really don't want to give that out. Can I just use a made-up one? Do you HAVE to have it?
Dee, first let me say that all such information is kept completely secure. Only the top four people on this page would be able to access it. We do not sell, share, or do anything else with your contact information and never will. There are a few nice bells and whistles we could add to our website, but I've refused to do so as it would require using a tool or plugin from one of those large well-known internet companies. Nothing has access to our data that we/I don't have full control and understanding of. We don't use any address books or contact management provided by third parties: I created and maintain our database.
To date we have not yet had reason to use a phone number to contact a single participant. But while you all contribute your time in filling out surveys and getting saliva samples, we invest quite a bit of research funds and time into production of the kits, postage, and mailing. This is a partnership between each of you and our small team. We want to be sure that we have means of contacting you if/when needed. So, yes, we'd like to have a number at which you could be reached if needed. If anyone ever calls that number it would never be an automated dialer/service, and it would never be a stranger. It would be one of the above mentioned four people who picked up their phone and dialed your number.
If you have further questions about how your contact information is kept secure, or have remaining concerns about providing a contact phone number, please feel free to email me.
I wanted to check to make sure I did everything correctly to move on to the DNA kit. Thank you!
Hi Jessica, I just check your information and all of your dogs are all set to receive their DNA kits! Please know that we do like to stagger sending out the kits when there are multiple dogs in a family. I would expect for your first kit to arrive in the next couple of weeks! When your kits are ready to be shipped out, you will notice in each of your dog's profiles that they have been assigned a kit barcode number. Thank you for your participation!
Hi Susan, I have checked your information and see that you are all set to receive a DNA kit. We will soon be assigning a kit for your dog and it will come in the mail. The kit contains a saliva collection swab with corresponding tube to put the sample into. When you receive the kit, there will be a link provided where you can view a video on how to collect the sample. Thank you for your participation, and let us know if you have any further questions.
Hi! I filled out all fifteen surverys on my two dogs. Do I just wait to hear back or when will I be notified if I get a kit for them? Thanks in advance!
Hi Kristen, in order to become eligible to receive a kit you will need to go back into your profile and validate your mailing address. Once that is complete, we can send you the DNA kits! Please know that we do like to stagger sending out the kits when there is more than one dog in a family. Let us know if you have any further questions.
Oh okay, I thought I had but went back. I think I have it done now though?
Kristen, your address has still not been validated. Please go to your profile, into the UPDATE section. There you will see a box to enter in your address and once you have done so, please hit the validate button. There may be a tab down bar which will reformat your address in order for us to properly print it onto the mailing slip. When the address is properly entered, hit the UPDATE button again to save the information.
Yes you are all set Kristen! We will soon assign your dog a kit and get it in the mail. Thank you for your participation!
Hi, I was wondering when my kit would be sent out. I finished the surveys a few days ago. Will I be notified when a kit is sent?
Hi Alyssa, I have checked your information and you are indeed all set to receive a DNA kit. I would expect for you to receive it in the mail in the next 2 weeks. We are currently working on a better system to notify participants about their kits. As for right now, you can check on your profile under the personalized feedback. Once we have assigned a kit to you, there will be a long kit identification number. When this appears it means a kit has been assigned to you and is on its way! For now, this is also where you can view when we have received your kit back and the future status of the sample. Thank you for your support and participation in our research!
I just finished my surveys and I'M SO EXCITED TO GET MY KIT!!! (Yes, I'm yelling with excitement!) I have been reading all about what you do with the kits when you get them back and I just find this all so terrific and so awesome and so really fabulous. My dad randomly found about Darwin's Dogs through a magazine article and mailed it to me, so well done marketing department! Now, here I am participating in this supercool data gather project. Science ROCKS! Can't wait to get my kit! Woo-hoo!
You are very welcome Carla! We thank you very much for participating and supporting our research. A big congratulations to Donavan for becoming one of our March dogs of the Month!
I just finished all the surveys. It says I'm eligible to receive the DNA kit. Does that mean I will be receiving it or do I need to do something further to receive it?
Hi Christine, I checked your information and you are indeed all set to receive the kit! You do not need to worry about doing anything else. We will assign you a kit and it will be sent out in the mail. It may take a couple weeks to be sent to you though as there are many other eligible participants head of you. We thank you very much for participating and supporting our research!
Finished the surveys and wondering if I need to do anything else to receive the kit. Thank you!
